Introducing the Pahikung One of a Kind Kimono series designed by Bex Manners. Also known as Songket, these textiles are ancestral to Sumba, Indonesia’s forgotten island’s nobility.
At R collective, we’ve collaborated with local communities to revive traditional weaving techniques, providing raw materials and using locally made plant dyes. These hand-loomed textiles are crafted over six months.
Pahikung textiles are sophisticated
and technically demanding, woven on horizontal back tension looms with supplementary warps to create intricate geometric and zoomorphic designs, reflecting the island’s rich iconography.
These motifs encapsulate Sumbanese cultural beliefs, traditions, and values, symbolizing wisdom, courage, renewal, and social identity.
We are proud to be a bridge and present you this hand-loomed, naturally dyed One Of a Kind series, supporting local communities and preserving ancient craft, embodying artisanal luxury.
