We’ve just returned from The Weaving Land, a place where everything feels deeply interconnected, where time seems to pause, and where animals and humans roam freely, respected and even revered. In East Sumba, art flows directly from the earth—from plants carefully gathered and transformed, woven without haste. Every piece is crafted by hand to carry wisdom, to honor ancestors, to be worn, gifted, and marking life’s rites of passage.
With each return, I’m profoundly grateful to the local communities who welcome me back, sharing their knowledge and trusting me to push creative boundaries together. It’s a partnership built on respect, trust and openness, and it feels like a growing conversation, one that deepens every time we come together to create.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This journey isn’t about a one off project; it’s about a continuous unfolding, a layered understanding of life, spirit, and craft. With each knot, each thread, we’re not just making something to hold—we’re weaving a story, a connection, an experience that I hope to continue to share with the world. One thread at a time, we’re building something lasting, something that transcends borders, carrying the soul of East Sumba with it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Thank you to my dear friend @anna_gornicka._ for capturing the essence of Sumba.
